Samsung will focus on better mobile software and futuristic displays after tough quarter

Samsung Electronics made an operating profit of 6.14 trillion won on sales of 53.3 trillion won in its fiscal fourth quarter, both year-on-year improvements in line with the company’s guidance, but net profit slid almost 40 percent year-on-year to 3.22 trillion won. Samsung saw its bottom line hit by slowing demand for smartphones and lower recorded prices for its component business, compounded by a strong won.

Looking forward, Samsung expects single-percentage growth for its phones and tablets in the upcoming year. The company says it will have an “enhanced product mix” in 2016, including new entries in the Galaxy A series, and also plans to concentrate on making its software more competitive.
