Moto Z, Moto Z Play, Moto Mods launched in India: Full specs, features, mods and price

Moto Z and Moto Z Play will be available only on Flipkart and Amazon from midnight of October 17

The Moto Z, Moto Z Play and Moto Mods have been launched in India, almost a month after they were announced at the IFA in Berlin. Available exclusively on and Flipkart starting 11:59 pm, October 17, the Moto Z has been priced at Rs 39,999 and Moto Z PLay at Rs 24,999.

The Moto Mods, little modules that add more more to the phone in the form of battery life, a zoom camera or projection, have been launched in India with discounted bundle pricing. The JBL SoundBoost Speaker is priced Rs 6,999, but will cost only Rs 5,999 when bought with the phone. The Hasselblad True Zoom Camera similarly has a price of Rs 19,999 and bundle price of Rs 14,999. The Instashare Projector costs Rs 19,999 and Rs 15,999 in the bundles, the Incipio offGRIDtm Power Pack similarly costs Rs 5,999 and Rs 4999.


Moto Z is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset coupled with an Adreno 530 GPU. The phone is running on 4GB RAM and comes with either 32GB or 64GB internal storage (expandable to 256GB). The display on the phone is a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED with 2560×1440 pixels.

Moto Z comes with a 13MP primary camera with laser autofocus, optical image stabilisation (OIS) and dual-LED flash, along with a 5MP front shooter with LED flash. The camera is capable of recording videos in 1080 at 60 frames per second. The phone is backed by 2600 mAh that supports fast charging. The company claims 24 hours of battery life for the device

Moto Z Play on the other hand is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, coupled with an Adreno 506 GPU. The phone will be backed by 3GB RAM and comes with 32GB storage. The phone comes with a 5.5-inch FHD Super AMOLED display and has a 16MP primary shooter with dual-LED flash, along with a 5MP front shooter. The phone comes with a 3510 mAh non-removable battery. The company claims that the phone has 45 hours of battery life.

Both phones will be launched running Android Marshmallow, but might be getting Android Nougat very soon. According to reports, Motorola already has plans to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat for the Moto Z series, and might be coming as soon as in Q4 of this year. Motorola is also planning to bring the latest Android OS to Moto G4 and G4 Plus.

So what are Moto Mods? These appendages compatible with the Moto Z and Moto Z Play add advanced functionality like battery life, camera quality of projection. The JBL SoundBoost is powerful stereo speaker, while the Insta-Share Projector turns the Moto Z into a 70-inch movie projector. The Incipio offGRIDtm Power Pack adds up to 20 hours of life while the Hasselblad True Zoom adds advanced imaging functionality wiht 10x optical zoom.

Moto has also announced Style shells priced Rs 899 to Rs 1,299 for Moto Z Play and Rs 1,099 to Rs 1,599 for Moto Z.
