Google Pixel smartphones are set to launch on October 4. Now, a Nest commercial aired in Netherlands might have given away first look of the device. In the commercial posted by Android Police on YouTube, a woman is seen holding the Pixel smartphone in aluminium colour variant. The leaked image hints at use of metal and glass on the rear and standard white face in the front. Google’s Pixel is seen to have prominent aluminium edges. The bottom section of the rear is aluminium as well. And the rest of it has white glass panel.
Nest commercial started a debate on Reddit, with users discussing if the device has a modular design. “What is that on the back of the device? Is pixel going modular?” said one of the users who goes by the name robisoc. Another user – chepi888 – wrote, No, but the texture from the top half to the bottom half is different. My speculation is something like glossy on top, matte on bottom (for the XL).”
Google has already confirmed the October 4 launch of its ‘made by Google’ hardware devices and rumours already point at launch of two new Pixel branded smartphones. However, Google is not giving away any clues in terms of design of these next generation Android phones made by HTC. The YouTube video uploaded by Google shows a rectangular search box taking the shape of a smartphone with the date October 4 mentioned next to it and the Google logo appearing at the end. According to reports, Google is expected to ditch the Nexus branding this year, and go with the Pixel name. HTC is working on Google’s new smartphones called Pixel and Pixel XL. Google’s Pixel phones have been code-named ‘Sail-fish’ and ‘Marlin’ respectively.
